DICKINSON, N.D. — Both Nebraska representatives at the American Legion Central Plains Regional opened with wins on Wedneday.

Easton Young’s gem carried Roof-Tech (Millard West) to a 1-0 win over Wayzata, Minnesota, in the first contest. Later in the day, C&H Construction (Omaha Burke) scored eight runs in the top of the second inning en route to a 12-1 win over host Dickinson.

Young threw a two-hitter to outduel Wayzata’s Matthew Bohlke, who threw a six-hitter.

“He stayed ahead of most of the hitters and really threw the ball well,” Roof-Tech coach Steve Frey said. “He did a good job of throwing his off-speed pitches for strikes.”

The game’s lone run came in the top of the sixth when Max Anderson’s single brought home Paul Hinton.

“He didn’t hit it hard, but it was a ground ball in the right spot,” Frey said.

Roof-Tech advanced to Thursday’s 5:30 p.m. game against West Fargo, North Dakota.

C&H, meanwhile, scored eight runs in the second and four more in the third to take a 12-0 lead. The game, scheduled for seven innings, ended after five.

Noah Olson, who hit a two-run home run, and Cade Dungan had three RBIs apiece to lead the team from Burke, while Alex Wize and Josh Dickey combined on a four-hitter.

C&H advanced to play Dubuque, Iowa, at 8 p.m. Thursday.
